magazine 4 pages reconstruction - double page spread

This is the flat plan for the left page of the double page spread. I will follow this when recreating this page.

This is the second page that I am going to recreate and the second half of the article. Below is the flat plan I have created for this page.

These are the reconstructions I created. I think they turned out quite well however, the second page was harder to reconstruct and I was unable to add in the image. I found keeping the composition of the text to the original quite challenging as could not find the exact fond and had to compromise.

magazine 4 pages reconstruction - contents page

The task states that I need to reconstruct a magazine's front cover and 4 pages from the magazine itself. The front cover I chose to recreate, I found online, and the 4 pages I am going to recreate are from a Vogue magazine I bought at a much later date. As it is a fashion magazine, most of the pages are all advertisements, so the 4 pages I am going to recreate are 2 for the contents page and 2 for a double page spread. These are the images of the contents page I am going to recreate and the flat plans I made for this.

Due to paper sizing issues, my contents page is not the same size as the one in the magazine. This affects the placement of text and images and has caused my recreation to become slightly different to what I was copying.

reconstructing the website

After looking online I found a few sites that allow you to create your own website, 3 of these being Wix.com, Moonfruit.com and Create.net. After looking through these sites I have decided to go with Wix.com as it had some very simplistic yet professional looking templates which I think will be helpful in my reconstruction and also my own website.

Some of the templates I have found that could be used are called Fashion Blog and Beauty Blog. I decided to go with beauty blog as the layout was similar to the one I wanted and looked like I could easily change it into what I want. After adding the header and the side links, I noticed that my recreated website will not be an exact replica of the original however I don't think this will cause too much of a problem.

Magazine Reconstruction Recce

1.    Are there any potential hazards that could pose a health and safety risk where your photo shoot will take place (trailing cables/traffic/other objects )? There is a possibility that their will be wires on the floor.

2.    What will you do to ensure these risks are minimised? Before the shoot takes place, I will ensure that the area going to be used is tidy and free of any hazards.
3.    Will the time of day/weather affect the outcome of the photos? Have you allowed for this? I am planning to take my photographs inside which may be affected by the amount of light present in the room however I will also be using artificial sources of light to help counteract any darkness.
4.    Have you considered the background to your photos, particularly if taken outside? I am planning on using a plain wall in my house as the background for my images however I may also edit them in Photoshop to better enhance the image.

5.    Have you considered lighting? What about the ‘problems’ of natural lighting, either outside, or streaming through a window? Will you need to use a flash? Have you considered reflective objects that might spoil the effect? I am going to be using the mixed efforts of both natural and artificial light however I will also try using flash to see if that helps improve the image.

6.    Do you need permission to take photos in the place/venue you have in mind? I am taking the photographs in my home so do not need permission for this.

7.    Do you need to book time in a room (eg the photography studio at Shiney)? For this photo shoot I do not need to book any rooms.

8.    Are other people/crowds likely to be an issue for you? What have you done to ensure that it will not spoil the effect? As I am taking the images at home, there is a very limited selection of other people that will be there so it will be easier to control who is present when I take the images.

9.    Are you reliant on lifts/props/friends’ equipment/models? How have you planned that these things will come together at the appointed time? Plan B? I need props such as clothes and make up which are all things that I own so that will not be a problem. I have also asked my sister to model as she is more reliable and decreases the risk of losing my model.
10.    Finally, have you thought of every eventuality…? I think I have thought of everything however if I have not and a problem arises, I will deal with it rationally and think of the best possible solution I can.

Model make-up for reconstruction

The makeup the model is wearing on the front cover looks quite natural for the overall face with more focus on the eyes. The eyes are quite neutral with brown eyeshadows and some eyeliner. To help with this look I found a youtube tutorial which will be quite useful in recreating the look. I quite like this style of make up so I think I might use this for my own original magazine.

I also noticed that the model has a direct mode of address which includes the audience and makes it more personal to each reader. I will keep this in mind and use this with my own model. The stance is very dominant and I will recreate this with my own model.

The clothing is just a simple striped dress which I may be able to have something similar too and she is not wearing many accessories, only a bracelet which I should be able to get although it may not be the same.
