Reconstruction Ancillary task 2: a billboard advertisement for the magazine

Here are a few billboards that I have found online. I could not find any that were for fashion magazines specifically so these are just regular fashion billboards. I like how they are quite simple yet still effectively advertise their brand. I will keep this in mind when I design my own billboard as this technique will help it look more professional.

I have decided to recreate the Calvin Klein billboard as the image does not look as high key as the Forever 21which will be easier for me as I do not have access to a studio. The image itself is also more simplistic than the Simple billboard which will be more realistic for me to recreate.

This is the final billboard that I created. I like how it has came out. For the logo, I could not find the font to download so I used an image that I found on the internet. I also used Photoshop on the image I took to make the model more tanned like in the original billboard.

This task was not as hard as I had imagined however, it was the first billboard I had ever created so it gave me a chance to try it before I had to create my own.

Reconstruction billboard make up

For the billboard, I noticed the model was not wearing much face make-up and her eyes were covered by oversized sunglasses. When I come to take these images, I will focus on giving the model a flawless yet still natural look but any imperfections can be edited out on Photoshop. I also noticed that the model is quite tan, I will use bronzer and other products to help create the desired effect although I may need to enhance it digitally.

Reconstruction Ancillary task 1: two hyperlinked pages from the magazine’s website

For this task, I have been looking online at magazine websites to see which one I would try to recreate.

To create the website, I have looked wix.com which allows me to create magazines that will look professional however I am unsure at whether I will be able to find the exact template so I will try and find something that is as close as I can.

I have decided to go with Vogue's website to recreate.

Here are two screen shots of the website's home page. I have taken one of the top of the website and one of the bottom of the page as it includes social media information which is quite an important element in the making of my own magazine.

The second page I am going to try and recreate is this one:
I have gone for this page as its main focus is the current fashion trends which fits well with my magazine but it also uses the same few models which is good for me as I only have 1.

Once I had finished the website, I published it online. The link I was given for this site is http://stephwaller170395.wix.com/a2media

Here are some screen shots from the website.

Although my reconstruction is not a direct match image wise, I think the general layout was quite close. I found this task difficult as it was hard to find a template that would work similar to the original and it was also my first time using the site wix.com, however, by completing this task; it allowed me to have some practice on the site so I had some experience when it came to making my own. I think it will be easier when I create my own site as I will not be having to try and match the template to something already existing.

Reconstruction front cover

This is the magazine I have decided to reconstruct. The main image looks easy enough to recreate and is very high key which I will have to take in the studio or try and create my own high key setting.

The text looks quite simple to recreate although I may not be able to find the exact fonts. I will mainly use dafont.com to find my fonts.
This is the flat plan I am going to follow to reconstruct the magazines front cover. I think it closely resembles the original product which will make my reconstruction more accurate.

This is my final reconstruction of the magazine's front cover. I think it is quite close to the original however I did have some trouble with the positioning of text relative to the main image. For my own main task I will make sure the text is better positioned so it is easier to read, however, overall I am quite happy with how it turned out. This task has been very helpful in making me more comfortable with constructing magazines and I think it will be beneficial for when I construct my own work.

reconstructions model

For my reconstructions I have asked my sister if she would be my model. Here is the Facebook message where she agreed to do it. By having my sister model, it reduces any risk of her dropping out which I would face if I asked a friend to do it.

Chosen brief

For my coursework I have decided to use this brief:

The first four pages from an original regional magazine, together with two of the following three options:
• a radio advertisement for the magazine;
• two hyperlinked pages from the magazine’s website;
• a billboard advertisement for the magazine.

For my ancillary tasks, I have decided to produce a billboard and two hyperlinked pages from the magazines website as these are the two I am most comfortable as I am unfamiliar with the conventions of radio advertisements.

Here are some images of inspirations for how I would like my product to look:

Reflecting on AS

I am very disapointed with my overall year at AS as I felt that the time I put into my work was not reflected in the final product. I am happy with the skills that I developed such as Photoshop which I can transfer and improve these skills in the second year.
